IDEAS FOR YOUR WINTER TRIP
Ski weekends in Austria, Germany & Switzerland
Friday arrival, a mountain day on Saturday and a relaxed finish on Sunday: for a short break, an easy daily route can matter more than the largest ski area. These examples help you compare journeys from Austria, Germany and Switzerland. The shortest journey depends on where you start.
A simple two-night plan
Friday: travel, check in and arrange equipment. Saturday: ski the area nearest your accommodation. Sunday: choose a shorter mountain day or village outing, then allow time for the journey home. Check late check-in, rental collection, luggage storage and the final connection before reserving.
Compare the entire short-break cost
Add two nights, travel, parking or local transport, lift tickets, rental and any lessons. Check minimum-stay rules and whether a two-day ticket fits your actual ski days. Compare current weather and official opening information; a weekend reservation does not guarantee snow or open lifts.
Places to consider—and what to check

Schladming-Dachstein
For a departure from Vienna, Graz or another Austrian base, compare Schladming’s official arrival guide with your actual timetable or road journey. Staying in Schladming simplifies planning for Planai, while other parts of the region require separate onward travel.

Garmisch-Classic
For a departure from Munich or southern Germany, compare the journey to Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the final route to Hausberg, Kreuzeck or Alpspitzbahn. Garmisch-Classic and Zugspitze are different ski areas: choose the entry point and correct ticket before booking.

Engelberg-Titlis
For a departure from Zurich, Lucerne or another Swiss base, compare the rail route via Lucerne with driving to Engelberg. The official mobility guide explains onward travel from the station. Match your accommodation to the Titlis or Brunni area you intend to use.

Seefeld
Compare a departure from Innsbruck or southern Bavaria with the official Seefeld arrival guide. For two nights, choose one downhill base: Rosshütte and Gschwandtkopf have different access points. A village stay can also suit a group combining skiing with walks.

Zell am See-Kaprun
Compare the full journey from Salzburg or your own departure point to Zell am See. The station is in town, while Kaprun requires onward travel. For a short stay, pick your main mountain and lodging base before comparing hotel prices.

Bad Gastein
A ski-and-spa weekend can fit a Gastein base: check the rail arrival, route to your chosen lift and a separate thermal-bath visit. Bad Gastein and Bad Hofgastein have different station and hotel locations. Hotel spa or thermal admission is not automatically included.

Hochkar
For a departure from Lower Austria, Upper Austria or Vienna, compare the road journey to Hochkar with your available weekend time. Göstling valley accommodation and staying on the mountain are different options. Check current lift operation and winter road conditions before travelling.

Winterberg
For a departure from the Rhine-Ruhr region, compare Winterberg as an alternative to a longer Alps journey. The town has several operating areas; choose the specific slopes first. Check current opening, rental arrangements and accommodation location rather than assuming all lifts are running.

Feldberg
For a departure from Freiburg, Basel or southwestern Germany, compare Feldberg’s journey and lift entry points. Accommodation in a nearby Black Forest village adds local transport. For a short stay, confirm the actual operating area and last connection before reserving.

Davos Klosters
For a departure from Zurich, eastern Switzerland or your own base, compare Davos and Klosters as separate places to stay. Choose one mountain sector for the weekend and check that sector’s lift status. Moving between all mountain areas can take time out of a short trip.
